Dating from the 5th century, this iconic piece by Monastic Artisans was
affixed to a long pole and carried high above the people, as a standard
leading the way to the altar and calling us to worship. Centuries later, the
standard calls people to gather in Catholic Mass and Protestant worship.
As we wander through this wilderness, the Lord is with us. His grace is sufficient to
cover the sins that distract us. He nourishes us spiritually with the bread of life and
living water that leads to eternal life. He offers us a deeper spiritual life now and hope
for everlasting comfort. When we are anxious and weary, He listens to our prayers,
carries our burdens, grants us peace, leading us to the altar and calling us to worship.
"Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see your presence in times of doubt and
uncertainty. Strengthen our resolve to follow your path, even when it's unclear, and
to trust that you are leading us out of the chaotic existence we have created for
ourselves toward peace and comfort, making paths in the wilderness, and doing
something new in our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen."
